Load the trunk, drive across town, find the bin, hope it isn't full. That's the drop-off experience. There's another option. Load the trunk. Drive across town. Pull into a thrift store lot. Maybe wait behind someone with a much bigger load. There's a simpler version: free pickup at your door.

Pack the books, schedule a pickup, set the boxes outside on the service day. People in Old Settlers and over by the Old Town district tell us they finally got around to donating after putting it off for a year.

Drop-Off vs. Doorstep Pickup, Honestly

The traditional drop-off has its place. Local libraries take small donations within their limits. Some thrift stores accept books, also with limits. But the friction adds up fast — especially with anything bigger than a couple of bags.

With doorstep pickup, you skip the loading, the driving, and the parking. You don't need to be home. The pickup window runs from 8 AM to 8 PM.

What If You Still Want to Drop Off in Round Rock?

If a drop-off works better for your situation, the Round Rock public library and several thrift stores accept book donations within their limits. Calling ahead saves a wasted trip.

If you have more than a couple of bags, or any media — DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, board games, puzzles, video games — pickup is usually the easier path. Most drop-off sites don't take media. Local Pick-Up Partners do. The American Library Association's Book Donation Programs guide outlines how community book donation programs route donated material.
