How Does a Free Book Pickup in Chicago Stay Free?

What Does Resale Mean for You as a Chicago Donor?

You do not get paid, and there is no point dressing that up. What you get is a pickup that costs nothing, no drop-off, no sorting, and no circling for parking along the Milwaukee Avenue corridor with a trunk full of paperbacks.

What you also do not get is a promise about any single book. Nobody can tell you where one specific paperback lands. What can be told to you honestly is the shape of it: many items are redistributed through the Give ME Books program, some are resold by the partner to sustain the free service, and items that cannot be reused may eventually be recycled as a last resort. Where Are Donated Books Resold in Chicago?

How a Chicago Pickup Actually Runs

You pack the books, because a Local Pick-Up Partner does not bring boxes. Books and media go into boxes or sturdy bags, well packed and not too heavy, set out starting at 8 AM. The window runs 8 AM to 8 PM and you do not need to be home.

In a Wicker Park three-flat that usually means the back landing or just inside the vestibule. In winter it means anywhere the wet snow cannot reach the cardboard. If a partner serves your ZIP code, you can book a service day instantly. If not, your request enters the out-of-area pickup system, where nearby partners may claim it.
